FLOYD (TOAD) BORING
SERVED FIVE PRESIDENTS
DuBois High School graduate Floyd Boring, shown in the photos BELOW guarding John F. Kennedy,
was affectionately known as "Toad" by his DuBois classmates.
He went on to become a career Secret Service Agent who protected the lives of five US Presidents
ranging from Franklin Roosevelt to Truman, Eisenhower, John F Kennedy and LBJ.
Agent Boring was in the historic gun battle that stopped a 1950 assassination attempt
targeting President Harry Truman.
A career US Secret Service Agent, Boring was involved in a fierce gunfight on November 1, 1950 with two Puerto Rican
nationalists who were attempting to assassinate President Harry S. Truman.
One of the assassins and a White House police officer, Leslie Coffelt, were killed in the shootout.
The incident was recounted in the 2005 book "American Gunfight: The Plot to Kill President Truman --
and the Shoot-out That Stopped It,"
by Stephen Hunter and John Bainbridge, Jr
On another occasion he helped save Truman from drowning.
He was NOT in Dallas when Kennedy was assassinated.
